The Daily Opinion – Racism

Do you believe all races can be racist or can only certain people experience true racism?

From google the meaning of racism is:

  1. the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races.
    • prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one’s own race is superior.
      “a program to combat racism”

racial discrimination, racialism, racial prejudice, xenophobia, chauvinism, bigotry, casteism

“Aborigines are the main victims of racism in Australia”

  1. Great piece! I like a lot of your writing! The question as to whether all races can be racist requires an existential analysis. My recent blog post addresses anti-blackness as it relates to sleep; and speaks to your question quite a bit. Check it out!

  2. all races can be racist, they can also all be, haters, lovers, selfish, giving, controlling, caring, tight fisted or big hearted. No one race gets all the good or all the bad, we have it in us to be all things good or bad, most of the people 99% are good, but we only get to see the 1% negative on tv because that pulls in ratings and money, maybe if we start turning off the news when they show the bad, they will get it and move to the good, because in TV land, green the color of money seems to be the only thing that matters anymore.

  3. There’s only one race and that’s the human race. We are all part of that. We will always find reasons to be suspicious of the other until we realize they are just like us in so many ways.

  4. People can be hostile within countries depending on what area of the country you come from. When humans can be that tribal and dumb, yeah, anyone of any shade of any origin can be racist if the conditions and personality is right. 😞

  5. Of course, anyone of any race can be racist. People tend to get confused is when eradicating racism is prioritized to the classes of people that can do the most harm with their racism. The privileged classes can do more harm by being racist than the underprivileged classes. Many people get confused at this point and start to think that only the privileged classes can be racist. Then they confuse privileged classes with races and things get really crazy.

  6. Since there are still people out there who hate me because I’m white, labelling me with all kinds of evils- I’m a bigot, I’m privileged, I’m intolerant, I’m whatever, I’ll define it as unjustified hatred based on untrue presuppositions and unjustified biases. And I’ll just say that hatred, including the more subtle kind of seeing yourself as better than me because I’m somehow beneath you, or beneath contempt, for whatever reasons you have. And all hate is bad. I’m not better than anyone, unless they think they’re better than me. If they think that, then I’m better than them.

Except you, Jason, and a few other bloggers I love. YOU’re better than me. And I hate that.

  7. I’m mortal which means I’m human and I make mistakes. I have raised my children to have colorless Harriet because I believe that is what our world needs. See me for me how God created me I beg you. Because I have taught my daughters to see you as their brothers and sisters.

  8. To say any race can’t be racist is a bit racist, isn’t it? 😛
I’m sure I encountered a few people in Japan who were racist against me. So yeah. I used to get it all the time when I lived in Quebec too. Some Quebecois can’t stand English people.
